    Many cities in Tunisia struggle with lack of green areas and common public spaces. SALAR International’s SymbioCity project in the municipality of El Mourouj, Tunisia, has resulted in a parc development plan, which is now being realized.

  • SALAR International visits regions of Ukraine to deliver IT equipment and discuss recovery with partner municipalities
    During 26 January – 3 February 2023, a team from SALAR International visited Ukraine to monitor the delivery of essential equipment to municipalities impacted by the ongoing conflict, and to consider how to deepen support to partner municipalities, to ensure they can engage in the recovery and reconstruction efforts in the country, going forward.

  • Increased resilience in local governance creates hope in Lebanon
    SALAR International works globally to promote and strengthen local and regional self-governance and resilience. The Reslog Project is a part of Sweden’s response to the Syria Crisis and aims to strengthen the capacity of local government actors by increasing resilience in accordance with the principles of peacefulness, co-habitation and inclusiveness in Türkiye and Lebanon.

    L'Association suédoise des autorités locales et des régions (SALAR) et sa filiale, SALAR International, démarrent le projet Appui à la Gouvernance Inclusive et Redevable (AGIR), financé par la coopération Suédoise (Sida), en République Démocratique du Congo (RDC). Le projet a été élaborée à partir d'une pré-étude commandée par l'Ambassade de Suède à Kinshasa en 2021.

The Liberian delegation included Minister of Interior Affairs Varney Sirleaf and National Security Adviser Jefferson Kanmoh, as well as Madeline Karlsson, FBA Project Manager for Liberia.

    In October 2021 parliamentary elections were organized in Iraq, but still the most urgent and structural problems remain unresolved. In the past year, SALAR International has issued two reports elaborating on the most pertinent underlying reasons for the current situation.

  • Opportunity; National Policy Advisor for the Democratic Republic of Congo
    SALAR International is seeking to engage National Policy Advisor, based in Kinshasa, who can facilitate strategic stakeholder relationships with key national authorities in Kinshasa and provide analytical, facilitative, and strategic support to the AGIR project. The National Policy Advisor will be engaged as consultant for up to 25 days during October 2022 - September 2023 initially, with the intention to extend the contract based on performance.

  • SymbioCity Kenya Releases the publication Planning our towns: a toolkit for inclusive urban development in Kenya
    SymbioCity Kenya Programme is a partnership between the Council of Governors and SKL International, with funding from the Swedish Embassy to Kenya. As part of the programme, sustainable approaches to urban development has been piloted in seven Kenyan counties. The counties have jointly gone through the SymbioCity Process, from planning to implementation of urban improvements.

    Since several years, SALAR and SKL International manage a project in co-operation with the Serbian local government association; Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities (SCTM). The main purpose of the project is to support SCTM and Serbian local governments to prepare for a future EU-membership, e.g. by providing direct support to selected municipalities for improved service delivery in; environment, emergency prevention, human rights and gender equality.

  • Cities Developing Solutions will meet in Istanbul
    Marmara Urban Forum (MARUF), is a biennial international urban forum to be organized by Marmara Municipalities Union for the first time on 1-3 October 2019 for three days at Istanbul Congress Center in Istanbul, Turkey.The conference, organized with the motto “Cities Developing Solutions”, will bring together stakeholders that play an important role in the design, transformation and management of cities, as well as different approaches to urban services and city management. Guided by the Sustainable Development Goals, the forum provide the basis for sharing knowledge, experience and opportunities with more than 200 speakers from 25 countries and 3000 participants. SKL and SKL International will participate both as moderators and panellists.
