SKL International is integrated into SALAR and a new Managing Director is appointed

In order to strengthen its work with international development projects, the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions (SALAR) intends to integrate SKL International, its fully owned subsidiary specialised in development cooperation in support of local democracy and governance.

- Integrating SKL International into SALAR will make us even better and stronger as a member organisation. By taking this direction we will strengthen our collective work on local and global democracy, says Staffan Isling, Managing Director of SALAR.

SKL International will relocate from their current office at Hornsgatan 15 in Stockholm to the main SALAR office, which is located just across the street. The aim is to incorporate SKL International into SALAR from January 1st 2022.

In order to ensure that the necessary conditions are in place to make this possible, the current Managing Director, Jenny Jansson Pearce, will today leave her position and focus on this task.

Per-Arne Andersson has been appointed the new Managing Director of SKL International. He is leaving a position as Head of the Department responsible for education and labour markets at SALAR, where he is also part of the Management Group.

- Strengthening and protecting democracy has rarely been as relevant as it is right now. In wake of the pandemic we see a negative trend in the development of democracy and human rights around the world. By making this change we will be able to further develop our work on strengthening local democracy and governance - an important part in improving resilience for future crises, says Ewa-May Karlsson, President of SKL International.
