Final Working Group Established in the AGIR Project in Democratic Republic of Congo

A final mission of the year to Democratic Republic Congo (DRC) and the AGIR project marked the final preparatory phase before starting to work on the ground in the next operational phase of AGIR.

It is great to end the year with this completion" says Project Manager, Paul Dixelius.

SALAR International supports six local decentralised entities in the Congolese province of Haut Katanga. The entities are supported to improve local governance and management in order to better address the needs of the local population. A first step in the operational phase of this support is the creation of working groups in each entity consisting of relevant officers, managers and civil society representatives. The operational work is primarily channeled through these working groups to ensure local ownership and engagement. The phase of working group creations was completed on December 16th when the sixth and final working group was formally established in Katuba commune.

In the next stage a number of concrete actions will be implemented on the ground. In the context of Katuba this will consist of actions such as; street cleaning and recycling of plastic bottles, awareness campaigns against sexual violence and care for victims and local mobilisation for road renovation.

Paul expresses gratitude and appreciation:

“It was a great pleasure to take part personally in this event, which completes the foundation for the upcoming work on the ground”
