With SALAR International’s Managing Director, Ryan Knox, as facilitator, the session aims to examine the underlying mechanism and drivers in the provision of adequate housing as an element of recovery and reconstruction in Ukraine. With at least 13% of the total housing stock being damaged or destroyed, affecting more than 2.5 million households, there is a need for effective instruments and frameworks for a targeted and sustainable recovery and reconstruction.
The session will highlight experiences and key lessons learned from recovery and reconstruction efforts in the Ukrainian City of Samar and Kherson Regional Administration. It will also continue the discussion on urban recovery initiated during previous World Urban Forums, providing a platform to share insights on how local and regional authorities can play a central role in recovery and reconstruction efforts following manmade and natural disasters.
