Training Programme - Inclusive Local Governance (Coming 2026)
SALAR International is developing a new international training on inclusive local governance. The training is planned for 2026 and is currently under development. Register your interest now to receive updates as the training takes shape.
The training programme is designed for policymakers, municipal leaders, and practitioners who want to strengthen skills in:
- Local Governance and Local Development
This programme equips municipal leaders, practitioners and other relevant participants with the tools and knowledge to strengthen inclusive, accountable governance at the local level. The training focuses on citizen engagement, participatory decision-making, and community-driven development strategies. Participants will learn how to integrate evidence-based planning with inclusive dialogue, ensuring that local governments become more responsive and effective in meeting the diverse needs of their citizens. - Local Finance
Effective local governance depends on sound financial management. This training explores local financial systems, intergovernmental transfers, and revenue mobilisation. Participants will gain practical skills to design and manage equitable financial systems, including local tax instruments, equalisation mechanisms, and transparent budgeting processes. The programme also addresses challenges of financial autonomy and accountability, helping municipalities strengthen their capacity to invest in essential services and long-term development. - Sustainable Urban Development
As cities grow, they face complex challenges linked to climate change, infrastructure, housing, and social inclusion. This training provides a practical introduction to sustainable urban planning, drawing from the SymbioCity programme and Swedish municipal approaches to urban planning and urban resilience. It emphasises participatory and evidence-based approaches, integrating spatial, economic, social, and environmental dimensions of development. Participants will be introduced to innovative tools and will exchange experiences on how local authorities can foster inclusive growth, adapt to climate risks, and build livable, future-oriented communities.
The training programme is planned for 2026 and is currently under development. By registering your interest, you will be the first to receive updates, practical information, and an invitation once applications open.
