Support to Decentralisation and Sustainable Local Development in Georgia

The project Cooperation for Development - Support to Decentralisation and Sustainable Local Development in Georgia (C4D) was developed in 2023 and has an implementation period of May 2024-March 2028.

Funded by Sida, the project aims to support the decentralisation process in Georgia, with a technical focus on sustainable urban development. The overall objective of the C4D project is to promote democratic, effective and accountable local self-governments and sustainable local development in Georgia. In this, it aligns with Sweden’s strategy for reform cooperation with Eastern Europe 2021-2027, especially the results areas of 1) Human rights, democracy, the rule of law and gender equality, 2) Peaceful and inclusive societies and 3) Environmentally and climate-resilient sustainable development and sustainable use of natural resources.

In the thematic focus area of sustainable urban development, the project benefits from the experiences of Swedish municipalities, formulated in the SymbioCity methodology, as well as best practices from SALAR International in urban planning in developing and transition countries.

Update March 2025

On 10 March, the Government of Sweden instructed Sida to stop all direct governmental agency cooperation with Geogia. SALAR International is in dialogue with Sida regarding how this impacts the C4D-project.
